Anyone who’s following the Rugby World Cup, will know that England play France in the quarter finals on the 8th. Should be a good match though I fancy England will win. The main reservation I have is that England should have played better against Scotland. The Scots [wahey wi’ Wallace bled] fought valiantly and deserved to win the first half, but as ever they didn’t score tries. If they had, our team would be on the way home.
Back to England v France. Many have criticised the French captain for his choice of a scrum in the last few minutes of the match againstTonga. If they had kicked a penalty they would have been assured a place in the quarter final anyway, so they didn’t need to risk missing a try. Choosing a srcum meant a real risk they wouldn’t have enough points to move up even though they couldn’t win the match. Typical of arm-chair enthusiasts to criticise. The French were thinking there might be a way of winning the match if they got a try. And they did get a try so it was clearly the best choice. Well done.
I still don’t think they have much chance against England though. The French swap their players to all sorts of positions they aren’t suited to and the line-up is different every match. England’s team are playing better together now than at the start of the tournament, not just hoping Johnny Wilkinson will win for them as some have suggested here at home.
My bet’s on England by a small margin. We’ll see!
