Free T-shirts!

Book signing on 19 February. Waterstone’s Middlesbrough. So what do I need to do to sell books? Maybe I should dress up as Santa – like when I give out the X-mas dinners at work on Christmas Day? Nah, free T-shirts that’s the thing! I’m giving away a free T-shirt or a free mug with each of the first 20 books that they sell at the book signing.
My publisher thinks I’m mad. Even my dog grins when I mention it but it’s true. How do we sell books to the poor unsuspecting public? In fact why do we sell books to the poor unsuspecting public? In my case it’s because when you’ve written three books and you believe they are good then it’s worth the expense and the effort to sell the first one. If the first one sells big, then readers will buy the second and third automatically. The only hole in this argument of course is if they hate the first book. I’ve had no negative feedback and great reviews so far,  so maybe I’ll be lucky. It is a damned good read – a page-turner. Who knows? But all authors who want to establish a readership need to make the effort to sell their books whether they are with a small publisher like Fingerpress or even the big guys like Harper-Collins. (see ‘sell your book!’ on this site).
If ya got it, flaunt it I say!

I didn't get a t-shirt Fred. :) I love your musings on your family. Your writing flows beautifully and just at the right moment you introduce emotion. You are a scientist, writing must have a formula. I look forward to reading more.

No formula, only what comes into my head! I could re-write it all 'proper' I suppose. No time though!
